Description
First edition, hardcover, published by Libro Port Publishing, Japan, 1993.
“From a Dead Man’s Wallet: Confessions of a Bookmaker.”
A striking and surreal record of Peter Beard’s Diaries, which themselves are equally as surreal. Collages of his own photographs, wildlife, the artists blood, drawings in Indian ink, women, leaves, images of famine and pain and snakeskin grace the overfilled pages of Beard’s diaries as equals. The artist has been creating these documents since his youth, elaborating and developing the aesthetic, drawing on the influences from around him, whether that’s Pop Art or his time working in Kenya. This book documents these diaries in photographs that continue the aesthetic into the studio setting.
