Description
Set of two plywood revolt chairs with white arms by Friso Kramer (1922-2019) for Ahrend, Netherlands. Designed in 1953, the Revolt chair is perhaps Friso Kramer's most famous design. Typically produced with colored panels to seat and back, it's very unusual to see this combination of natural plywood panels, with white Ciranol armrests. The folded metal frame is a very pale grey (almost white), and the set probably date to the 1960s. The sculptural design is timeless, and could work in wide range of settings such as Industrial office, dining room, studio or art gallery. Overall the chairs are in nice vintage condition with age and use-appropriate wear throughout, and warm tones to the wood. All shaped feet are in place, and the Ahrend stamp is on the reverse of the frame. As these are work pieces, we have categorized the condition as in "fair" to acknowledge a heavier patina than one might expect from domestic furniture, see images for examples - however for us these pieces have considerable character as they are and we would not recommend restoration. Approximate dimensions: H 78cm x D 52cm x W 60cm at arms, seat height 47cm, armrest height 68cm Overall depth is measured between the centre top of backrest and centre front of seat. Seat height is approximate at the highest point. Images are taken in natural light and image 6 gives a close example of color. The final image gives an example of this model in context, with other original pieces by Friso Kramer and Wim Rietveld for Ahrend.
