RARE Turbo orange pendant by Louis Weisdorfin 1965 and produced by LYFA from 1967 - EXTREMELY RARE vintage and superattractive Danish Mid-century design masterpiece!12 thin aluminum lamellae elegantly spiraltwisted and intertwined to form a large sphere-like shape, all lacquered deeporange. The sphere-like shape is stabilized by three metal wires inside. The visually simple and extremely appealingform hides the complex structure underneath the hood and creates an absolutelyamazing light when lit - the light is guided between the lamellae and out ofthe open top and bottom, leaving a spiral light pattern onto the ceiling andunderneath the pendant, while the ambiance is colored in a soft orange-reddishtone.The TURBO was designed in 1965 by LouisWeisdorf and put into production by LYFA in 1967. It was produced in two sizes;TURBO I (13.8" / 35 cm in diameter), which was available in orange, red, beige or white and TURBO II (23.6" / 60 cm), available in white. The shape was partly inspired by Japaneserice-paper lanterns and their expression of lightness - but in my personalopinion the shape resembles the inner workings of a jet engine, especially whenlooking at the pendant from underneath. The shape completely conceals the bulb mount, creating a glare-free experience - a key pillar of Weisdorfs ideas on goodlighting design. His unique sense of form, function and aesthetics, characterized by sculptural elegance with great lighting design qualities, often brought great international attention, the TURBO was no exception. It wasrecognized with an iF product design award in 1973 and remained in productionuntil the merger between LYFA and Fog & Mørup. In 1991 a new version of the TURBO, namedRegina, was released by the further-merged company Lyskær-LYFA - withoutapproval of Louis Weisdorf, who took the company the court and won. In 2013 theDanish company Gubi, relaunched this true design gem in collaboration withLouis Weisdorf - in the two original sizes but only in white. This TURBO I have up for sale is the TURBO I inorange - EXTREMELY RARE original vintage edition with the LYFA hallmark stampedon top of the bulb mount holder (see photo 5), and in very good vintagecondition with few signs of usage and age. Please see the photos!
