This cognac-color leather armchair is another of Frits Henningsen's iconic creations. With an original eye but a classical bent, Frits Henningsen created some of the most interesting designs from Denmark just before the Modern period for which Denmark is known. However, whilst good design can be found many places, quality craftsmanship cannot.Frits Henningsen used traditional materials in the traditional way. His workshop produced furniture in Copenhagen from 1911 into the 1950s. He did not work with other designers, plowing his own furrow and selling directly to the public from his own showroom. He shared Kaare Klint's ethos that quality of materials and craftsmanship were the right and proper objectives for a furniture maker. Design was done at the margins. This chair is in original condition and the natural leather has taken on the tell tale Danish midcentury cognac color that develops as natural and untreated leather ages over decades.Normal wear from use with some losses.
