Square glass light, model Hippolyt, by Kalmar Franken of Austria. Designed third quarter of the 20th century, and shown in the Kalmar catalogues. The light comprises fives panels of clear dispersion glass on a white metal frame, held in place by clear nylon fittings. The neutral hardware gives focus to the glass which is textured on both sides: the inner face is ribbed, while the outer face has an organic design, redolent of rippling water. The light is 32cm (approximate 12.6") square, and 13cm (approximate 5.1") deep, excluding the nylon fixings. The glass side panels are 10cm wide, leaving a small shadow gap between the glass and the mounting surface. These pieces were originally offered by Kalmar as ceiling flushmounts; alternatively they could be mounted as wall lights. The light is in good condition with wear in line with age and use. We have not noted any significant chips or cracks to the panels, however due to the age and nature of these pieces, there may be small imperfections or nicks in the glass. The mounting plate has been refinished to the front to provide a clean back-drop to the light. The wiring is original and replacement is advised, we suggest this is done in the country of install to ensure it meets your local needs and regulations. The fixture takes four bulbs of small screw-fitting (E14) base, and we recommend low heat bulbs to protect this fixture for the future, the bulbs in the last image are not included but are shown to illustrate shape and positioning. Please note this a heavy fixture and suitable installation is required. The light will be dismantled for shipping
