Description

Studio ceramic sculpture by Clive Brooker. Mid-20th century, England. Handmade pottery, with strong silhouette and Brutalist feel. The lower surface is charcoal in color - deep grey/brown - and the upper is brown; both have a matte finish and the texture of sand, with sgraffito lines. The bowl and underside are finished with a deep green glaze. This is a striking work: for us it stands well as sculpture. It could possibly also work as a candlestick or vase/vessel with shallow bowl; there are two further holes, one on each shoulder. If used as a vessel we would suggest using a suitable liner to protect the finish. Good vintage condition with surface wear in line with age and use. Stamped by the artist. Approximate dimensions: H 37cm x W 14cm x D 11cm The piece sits very nicely alongside a piece by Waistel Cooper, also in our collection here (see final image). The cabinet in the background (just seen) is by André Sornay.
