First edition, published by Curt Valentin, 1947.The first study and dissemination of Picasso's landmark mural depicting the bombing of the Basque village by German and Italian forces during the Spanish Civil War. Published ten years after the bombing of civilians in Guernica and two years after the end of the Second World War, this incredibly poignant book follows the history and creation of Picasso's 'Guernica'. Opening with an introduction by Alfred H. Barr, the book also contains the Paul Eluard poem; 'The Victory of Guernica', and text by Juan Larrea accompanying the many preparatory works and photographs. The book also contains a landscape fold out of the mural in the frontispiece.
