19th century military campaign chest of drawers teak circa 1850 number 88 Fabulous 19th century Colonial Military brass - Mounted Teak Campaign chest of drawers, England circa 1850, the two section chest with original flush mounted brass handles and original brass escutcheons. the upper section having two short drawers with flush-fitted handles beside a double-height deep drawer, the lower section with two long drawers all raised on turned screw on feet, the drawers are hand-dovetailed, features its original backboards, brass corner protectors and strap work,, comes with two non working key with tassel, the upper and lower sections s with original flush mounted carry handles to the sides, this chest has been fully re-polished by our in house restorer and will arrive in perfect order, reserve now. The chest is in two sections for ease of transportation. Chests that were used in the colonies, such as this one, were usually constructed of camphor, mahogany or teak. The chest benefits from a rich teak color, with a wonderful grain configuration to the front and sides. Mahogany, camphor and teak were used extensively for military chests because they had the advantage of only minimally expanding and contracting when exposed to extremes in temperature and humidity. Teak and Camphor are particularly resistant to woodworm, termites and other tropical infestations.
