A stoneware bowl with hare's fur glaze in browns and ochres. Designed for Rorstrand.Signed to the base. Sweden, circa 1950sStalhane learned faience painting at Rorstrand's Porcelain Factory before studying painting and then sculpture in Sweden and Paris. Aged 30, he became Rorstrand's leading artist of stoneware, designing and making distinctive and important pieces, including a collection shown in London in 1959. He set up his own design studio in 1973, experimenting with local clays and minerals. Stalhane exhibited in Sweden, Copenhagen, New York, Tokyo, Milan and London, winning awards and acclamation. His work is in private and public collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
