Description

A fine pair of octagonal vases, with intense turquoise glaze fading from light to dark, overlaid with gilt bronze mounts. Signed to the base: PM SEVRES. Paul Milet (1970-1950) was the son of French ceramicist Felix Optat Milet (1838-1911). After training with his father at Sevres Porcelain Manufacturers, the father and son started their own workshop together, also in Sevres. From around 1890, Paul Milet had taken the reigns of the business from his father and started signing his work “PM Sevres”. At the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1900, Paul Milet won a gold medal for his work and particularly highly praised for his richly coloured glazes. He went on to work with his own son and they won various awards, before ceasing trade at the end of the First World War.
