Signed 'L.C. Tiffany Favrile' to the underside and numbered '17856' to the pontil.'Tiffany claimed that the inspiration for iridescent Favrile glass came from the ancient pitted vessels of Rome and Syria, which had developed metallic lustres over time, after absorbing minerals from the soil.'Colour was one of the most important factors for Tiffany when producing glass.
